Oscar Gruss & Son Incorporated traces its roots back to 1918.   It was in Poland, at the end of the First World War, when a young Oscar Gruss opened an office in the city of Lvov to trade in foreign currency.  The core of his business philosophy was Integrity, Hard Work and The Pursuit of Opportunity.  Following this simple formula for success, the firm grew in a few short years to a staff of over fifty persons employed in its Lvov and Warsaw offices.

In 1939, as World War II raged in Europe, Oscar Gruss and members of his family left their growing business and fled to the United States.  Gruss set out to repeat his earlier success and in 1947 Oscar and his son, Emanuel, established the New York Stock Exchange Member Firm that continues to bear their name.
